About Ken Pickar, Visiting Professor of Mechanical and Medical Engineering
Ken Pickar is the instructor for a highly regarded class on entrepreneurship, as well as faculty advisor for the Entrepreneur's Club, Consulting Club, and Engineers for a Sustainable World. He is particularly interested in the start-up and continuous growth of technology-based companies, and the modification of normative product development processes to address developing world challenges. In his previous work in industry, Ken served as Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology at Allied Signal (now Honeywell), and was GE Corporate R&D Manager of The Electronics Laboratories. He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the LA chapter of Tech Coast Angels since 1999, and has served on the board of Neustar, Ness Technologies, and the Albany Medical School and Medical Center. Originally from New York, Ken received his BS from Queens College at the City University of New York, and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (with a thesis on the Critical Velocity of Superfluid Liquid Helium Films).
